Report: Patriots Interested in Defensive Tackle Pat Williams What, exactly, is Bill Belichick up to?

After shocking the football world by acquiring Albert Haynesworth in late July, the Patriots’ coach is apparently ready to shake things up at the end of August.

The Patriots are “making some inquiries” about defensive tackle Pat Williams and “might bring him in for a visit over the weekend,” according to ESPN’s John Clayton.

Williams, 38, played in 200 NFL games from 1997-2010. The 6-foot-3, 315-pounder spent the past six seasons in Minnesota, where he was a Pro Bowler in three consecutive seasons in 2006, ’07 and ’08.

In March, he announced he would not return to the Vikings.

“Everything’s good,” Williams told VikingUpdate.com. “I am not coming back. Going to go finish elsewhere.”

If the Patriots do add Williams and keep Haynesworth (6-foot-6, 320 pounds) on the roster, the combination of those two plus Vince Wilfork (6-foot-2, 325 pounds) would create, from a sheer size standpoint, one of the most imposing front lines in the NFL.
