In an untimely and unfortunate event, two participants died during the Nautica New York City Triathlon, according to NBCsports.com.

Both competitors died during complications with the swim portion of the triathlon, which has race organizers demanding more documentation of athletes’ training and experience.

The two deaths make it three in as many years.

On Monday, a New York City lawmaker asked for a top-to-bottom review of the situation, questioning whether or not the rain affected the choppiness of the water or whether the 90-degree temperatures factored into the fatal race.
