When Bruins fans head to the TD Garden for a game, there's three things that the majority of them probably hope for: A B's win, lots of scoring and a Shawn Thornton fight.
On Jan. 13, they got all three wishes, as the team exploded for a 7-5 shootout win over their rivals from the City of Brotherly Love.
Just minutes into the game, Thornton and Flyers winger Jody Shelley got into it after a faceoff near center ice.
Shelley, taking advantage of his edge in size, got the majority of the punches in during the first part of the fight. But Thortnton would respond, managing a couple of good jabs before ending the fight with a takedown. The ensuing penalty marked Thornton's 10th fighting major of the season — a milestone in its own right.
Fans would have plenty to cheer about during the remaining 57:25, which saw 12 goals scored between the two teams.
