Buck Showalter was out at home plate on Monday night to deliver his lineup card prior to the Orioles' series-opening game with the Red Sox in Baltimore. Moments later, however, the O's manager was seen being escorted by medical staff back to the clubhouse.

Showalter returned to the dugout for the top of the third inning.

He was being tended to for what the club is calling an injury. According to the Orioles, the skipper suffered an ankle injury during batting practice earlier in the day.

NESN cameras caught Showalter being worked on following the conference at home plate prior to the game. The veteran manager appeared to be in a lot of pain before walking down the tunnel to the clubhouse with members of the Orioles medical staff.
