Clay Buchholz Hopeful to Get on Mound in a Week, Eyeing Last Series of Regular Season as Return

Clay Buchholz still has a few milestones he must reach in his rehab for a stress fracture in his back, but he continues to progress without pain as he takes each step toward a return.

That return, we now know, may come in the team's last regular-season series in Baltimore. Buchholz spoke with NESN's Heidi Watney prior to the start of this weekend's series in Tampa, and he said that he's still trying to do everything he can to be back for the playoffs.

Buchholz admitted that if he does return, it will most likely be in a relief role, but he said he continues to feel good in each step. The plan is to get onto a mound within the next week or so to test his back even more.
