Cristiano Ronaldo Accused of Giving Middle Finger to Racing Santander Fans Once again, Real Madrid and former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has been accused of giving the middle finger to opposing fans. The latest incident took place as he was about to board a team bus outside Racing Santander’s El Sardinero stadium.

Video shows Ronaldo waving his middle finger as he is taunted by Santander fans. The Portuguese superstar claimed that he was making the gesture to teammate and compatriot Pepe, who was walking behind him.

The gifted Ronaldo is often the target of abuse from opposing fans. Last week he told Spanish newspaper Marca, “It’s surely because I’m good-looking, rich and a great soccer player. They’re jealous of me. I don’t have any other explanation.” Reports Business Insider.

This is not the first time Ronaldo has come under scrutiny for giving the one-fingered salute. In a December 2005 Champions League game, Ronaldo was playing for Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League in Lisbon against Benfica. He was booed relentlessly throughout the game because he is arguably the most famous product of Sporting Lisbon’s world-renowned school for Portuguese wingers. Sporting is Benfica’s eternal rivals.

As he left the field when he was substituted, he gave the middle finger to the crowd. He was fined £4,000 ($6,247) by UEFA and suspended from United’s first Champions League game the next season.

“There was nothing to justify the way the crowd treated me,” the BBC reported him saying after the game.
