He was a five-time NBA champion, two-time Defensive Player of the Year and two-time NBA All-Star. His number is retired by the Detroit Pistons. He wore a wedding dress to promote his autobiography, and is still "partying hard at age 50." Dennis Rodman was, and still is, one of the most unique characters to ever play in the NBA to date.
His style was unorthodox, but his drive was tenacious. Eleven years removed from the NBA, Rodman sat down with ESPN's Graham Bensinger to discuss what went on behind the scenes. The conversations about his time with the Chicago Bulls was when the biggest news was revealed.
"Me and Scottie [Pippen] and Michael [Jordan] never had a conversation in three years in Chicago. Only time we had a conversation was on the court, that was it. And nobody believes that," Rodman said with a laugh.
Known for his stellar defensive play and disregard for his own safety, Rodman admits that he was skeptical of getting too involved with his teammates. He believed that staying away from connections on the team helped him to focus.
"I didn't have a real dad. I've been by myself for so long," he explained. "People can call me anything in the (expletive) world. But people cannot say that I played for the money."
