So close!

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth and Adrian Gonzalex at the plate against Mariano Rivera, it looked like the four-plus hour game between the Red Sox and Yankees may just end up with a happy ending.

But then Rivera's cutter nicked the outisde corner and Gonzalez was called out on strikes to end the game. A bittersweet ending to a bittersweet series for the Red Sox, but at least they still hold a half-game lead on the Yankees in the AL East standings.

For his two-run home run providing the Red Sox offense, Dustin Pedroia wins NESN Nation's "Almost Worth the Wait" player of the game. Pedey just missed out on a chance at more heroics, too: he was on deck when the game ended.

NESN Nation's Nate Hinchey found his happy place after this one finished and tried to put a positive spin on things as the Red Sox turn their attention to the Texas Rangers. Watch the video for your NESN Nation postgame report and vote for your player of the game in the poll below.
