Jay-Z Announces Nets Will Continue to Be Called Nets When Team Moves to Brooklyn The Nets franchise was thrilled to usher in an exciting new era in its history, trotting out part-owner Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter on Monday to declare the big news:

The Nets will continue to be called the Nets when the team moves to Brooklyn from Newark, N.J., in 2012.

"It's official: We Will Be The Brooklyn Nets," reads the intro page on the team's website.

Yeah, that was the announcement the team got so hyped up about.

The more exciting news may have been Jay-Z's declaration that he will make up to three performances at the Barclays Center, part of the entertainment complex in Atlantic Yards, which is currently under construction.

On the bright side, there are still three New York sports teams that rhyme: Jets, Mets and Nets. That's probably worth something.
