Jon Lester Wins Amica Pitcher of the Week Honors In Difficult Week for Red Sox The Red Sox suffered three losses in a four-game stretch against the Blue Jays, in a series that wasn’t very friendly to Boston pitchers. The Blue Jays totaled 19 runs, and although it was less than Boston’s combined total of 28 runs, the Jays still won a game 11-10 and another 7-5.

But the Red Sox did take one game from Toronto — courtesy of left-hander Jon Lester. Lester, who started the second game of the series, pitched a shutout while Boston’s offense exploded for 14 runs. Lester’s dominating performance in the series earns him this week’s Amica Pitcher of the Week honors.

Lester pitched seven innings of three-hit, shutout baseball en route to earning his 15th win of the season. The southpaw walked a batter, but added 11 strikeouts to help the Red Sox win their only game of the series.

The closest Toronto came to scoring off Lester came in the fifth and sixth innings, when the Blue Jays managed to get a man on third base. Lester was able to end both innings without giving up a run.

The shutout lowered Lester’s ERA to 2.93. While Lester’s ERA is second to Josh Beckett‘s, the lefty leads the Red Sox in wins.
