If anything will put things in perspective for an athlete after a tough loss, it's showing up to work the next day in the middle of a major fundraising effort for the Jimmy Fund.
"In the whole scheme of things," Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon told WEEI's Mut and Merlon, "this game isn't really that big. It's not life or death. When you can realize that and realize that there are a lot more important things in life besides just baseball, I think that goes a long way."
Papelbon discussed how the relationship between the Red Sox and the Jimmy Fund is truly special.
"You look around sports in the NFL, and you look around Major League Baseball, and hockey and basketball, and I think that you don't really see a bigger relationship between two different partners like the Red Sox and the Jimmy Fund like you do here," he said. "It speaks for itself."
