Josh Beckett Fell in Bullpen Earlier in Day, But Didn’t Feel Injury Until Last Two Pitches of Early Exit

Josh Beckett left Monday’s game against the Blue Jays in the fourth inning after injuring his ankle, an injury the right-hander said he’s never dealt with before.

Beckett said he started feeling the injury on the second-to-last pitch he threw, and then it felt “a little bit different” on the last pitch he threw (his 58th of the afternoon).

The righty also admitted after the game that he fell in the bullpen earlier in the day, although he said that he didn’t feel the injury between the time of the fall and his second-to-last pitch of his early exit. Beckett said he isn’t sure the exact extent of the injury and plans to head back to Boston to see a specialist on Tuesday.

“It’s always concerning, I don’t know, that’s my power leg,” he said. “The way I pitch, I don’t think I could cut my leg off, I don’t think I could pitch.”
