Josh Beckett Takes Home Amica Pitcher of the Week Honors After Hurricane Irene left town, the Red Sox hit their own rough patch in the schedule. Two days without any games led to a 1-3 week entering Saturday, as the Sox fell out of first place in the American League East.

Josh Beckett assured it wasn’t entirely a lost week in the Sox’ 9-5 victory over the Yankees on Wednesday. Beckett needed some help from his offense after allowing four runs in the sixth inning, but he settled down after Boston’s bats gave him a 7-5 advantage.

His final line — seven innings, six hits, four earned runs, eight strikeouts and three walks — was effective enough to earn his 12th win of the season.

Beckett’s efforts earned him Amica Pitcher of the Week honors.

Beckett is next scheduled to take the mound Monday at Toronto as he prepares for what he hopes will be another strong (and long) autumn.
