NESN.com’s Tony Lee joined CBS Sports’ Lauren Shehadi to preview the American League Division Series matchups between the Rays and Rangers, and the Tigers and Yankees.

He was as surprised with the Rays resurgence as anyone in Boston, but he has words of warning for their offense.

“The one thing that could come back and bite them is that every once in a while, their offense just kind of goes into the tank a little bit,” said Lee. “We saw [Wednesday night] for seven or eight innings of that game, facing a bunch of minor leaguers, they couldn’t get anything done. But they have the pitching, they have the defense, they have the moxy, they have the momentum and they have a great manager, so I really like their chances to knock off the defending AL champs.”

Tony loves the Tigers-Yankees Game 1 pitching duel pitting the AL’s only 20-game winner Justin Verlander against Yankees ace CC Sabathia, saying it’s “about as good as it gets,” and adding that the matchup is a must-win for the Tigers.

“With Justin Verlander on the mound, Detroit’s going to have to win that game, otherwise the tone of that series is going to change dramatically,” he said.

He likes the Yankees to win in four games, and the Rays to win in five.
