Kyle Weiland Shows Maturity in Escaping Potentially Disastrous First Inning, Credits Decision to Continue Going After Hitters

If you ask Kyle Weiland about his start against the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday night, he'll likely tell you that he didn't do his job. But the rookie right-hander did show signs of maturity, particularly in the first inning, when he loaded the bases with no outs but escaped after giving up only one run.

Weiland lasted only four innings on Saturday, allowing three runs on six hits. But manager Terry Francona was pleased with how the young righty handled himself. Weiland said after the game that he felt more in control than he did in his first outing.
