Liverpool Live Blog: Reds Get Back to Winning Ways, Defeating Wolves 2-1

Final, 2-1 Liverpool: Andy Carroll almost caps a robust 90 minutes with a goal to top it off. He can't weave his way through three defenders. Liverpool stops its slide of consecutive leage defeats and take a deserved three points from the contest. That's all for now. Check back later for a full match report on NESN.com.

90th minute, 2-1 Liverpool: With the end of regulation time approaching we've got three minutes of extra-time. Odds are Liverpool will hold on and return to winning ways.

81st minute, 2-1 Liverpool: Gerrard comes on for Suarez. Raucous cheers to welcome Captain Fantastic back to Anfield.

73rd minute, 2-1 Liverpool: Suarez has been quiet for much of the second half. Until now, that is. He frees himself with a sublime touch in the Wolves area, but his cutback pass doesn't find Carroll.

72nd minute, 2-1 Liverpool: Ask and you shall receive … Kuyt on for Henderson.

69th minute, 2-1 Liverpool: Action-packed second half continues with a scramble in the LFC goalmouth. Liverpool counter and Lucas fires his shot just wide. Back and forth stuff coming too quick to blog it all. Either way, this game is crying out of Kuyt, Bellamy and Gerrard. LFC need their experience to settle things.

67th minute, 2-1 Liverpool: Martin Kelly has been quiet this afternoon. So quiet we almost forgot he was out there. The youngster was booked for a rash challenge on Jarvis.

63rd minute, 2-1 Liverpool: Steve Gerrard and Craig Bellamy warming up on the sidelines. They can't join the action soon enough. Liverpool is reeling after the Wolves goal. Neither possession nor advantage is in their favor in the last ten minutes or so.

53rd minute, 2-1 Liverpool: Carroll and Downing hit the post in the last minute, and Hennessey's heroics are keeping the visitors in striking distance of Liverpool.

49th minute, 2-1 Liverpool: Fletcher cuts the lead in half. Enrique blocks Henry's initial cross on the left. Hunt picks up the pieces and cuts it back to Fletcher from the byline. Fletcher lashes it into the net from the spot. What and impact the substitute makes. And we hear he's a Liverpool supporter and was a mascot at Anfield as a 10-year-old.

46th minute, 2-0 Liverpool: Mick McCarthy makes a switch at halftime. Steven Fletcher comes on for Richard Stearman. Stearman must be traumatized after the job Suarez did on him for the second goal. Broken ankles and wounded pride will make anyone want to call it a day. Edwards also came off for D

Halftime, 2-0 Liverpool: The Reds are comfortably ahead 2-0 at the break. There's honestly not too much in this game. Suarez and Carroll are shohwing signs of forming some level of understanding, but only slightly. The Uruguayan has been ever-manacing.

38th minute 2-0 Liverpool: The Kop just can't get enough of Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan puts LFC ahead 2-0 with a great goal. Jose Enrique played him in with a through ball from the Liverpool half and Suarez controlled it in the box. He took it on his right, faked in that direction before cutting back to his left, and struck it past Hennessey. He made a fool out of defender Christophe Berra in the process.

35th minute, 1-0 Liverpool: Wolves with another set piece in the LFC end. This time hunt rolls it to Stearman at the top of the penalty area. The defender shoots it and, lucky for the hosts, Lucas blocks it. Stearman's shot was heading in, but Lucas was there when Reina needed him the most.

32nd minute, 1-0 Liverpool: Skrtel goes on an adventure, taking the ball from the back and running through the Wolves midfield. Joey Barton's nemesis, Karl Henry brings him down and is booked for it. The Slovakian defender went down rather easily.

27th minute, 1-0 Liverpool: This game is flying towards halftime and Liverpool is fully in control of the game. Skrtel, back where he belongs in central defense, and Carragher are keeping a tight lid on the Wolves attack.

15th minute, 1-0 Liverpool: "Andy Carroll's going to score today and it won't be pretty," says our trusted intern. The 22-year-old has shown signs of life in the early part of the game. He's creating chances, though not particularly dangerous ones.

11th minute, 1-0 Liverpool: Charlie Adam moves to silence his critics with a lucky, lucky goal. Andy Carroll challenges for a header off a set-piece and pushes Wolves defender Roger Johnson. Johnson's clearing header falls to Enrique, who touches to Adam. The Scottish midfielder takes a shot from 25 yards and it deflects off of Johnson past Hennessey and into the net. Wolves are irate that a foul wasn't called on the burly Carroll. The shot was heading well wide, but the fortunate deflection puts Reds ahead at Anfield.

Eighth minute, 0-0: O'Hara's got the game's first chance on goal. Carragher's error opens up the space.

Fourth minute, 0-0: Liverpool is committing silly fouls in the final third in the early going. Wolves have set pieces in dangerous areas but they only thing they make of it is a high boot to Carroll's face. Jamie O'Hara is booked.

12 a.m. ET: Liverpool bounced back from its loss at Tottenham by beating Championship side Brighton Hove and Albion 2-1 in the fourth round of the Carling Cup. The win over second-divison foes was neither easy nor comprehensive,  against the second division team, but sometimes the old adage holds true: a win is a win is a win. Liverpool resumes its EPL campaign on Saturday against Wolverhampton.

After a positive start to a season that saw them win two and draw one of their first three games, the perennial relegation contenders have stalled in September. Home losses against Tottenham and Queens Park Rangers have curbed the early-season glee amongst their supporters. A trip to Anfield is a difficult prospect for any club, and it will certainly be the case for manager Mick McCarthy’s bunch.

Liverpool will look to Uruguayan newcomer Sebastian Coates and right back Martin Kelly to stabilize the defense. Daniel Agger and Glen Johnson are out for extended periods, so this is the opportunity for the two youngsters to cement places in the LFC team.

Now that captain Steve Gerrard has returned to the field, manager Kenny Dalglish has a welcome selection headache on his hands. Charlie Adam, Stuart Downing, Lucas, Dirk Kuyt, Jay Spearing and Jordan Henderson are all in contention for places in the midfield.

What does Dalglish do with his front line? Luis Suarez is an obvious starter. Craig Bellamy made the strongest case for selection one could make to play the sidekick role. His man of the match performance against Brighton has Reds everywhere calling for his inclusion.

Join us Saturday at 10 a.m. ET, as Liverpool looks to return to winning ways in the English Premier League.
