LFC Boston Loses Original Member Marty Collins, Known by Many as a True Red

LFC Boston and NESN.com mourn the loss of Martin “Marty” Collins: a true Red, born and bred. A real gentleman and original member of LFC Boston, Collins was well known and liked by nearly everyone he came across. By all accounts, he never had an enemy.

Born in 1962, Collins grew up in Liverpool. He came to America 20 years ago and settled in the Boston area, bringing his passion for life, love and LFC along with him. He spread the LFC gospel by using his Liverpool connections to secure Anfield tickets for scores of Americans who traveled to his city.

Except for a short stint in Delray Beach, Fla., he spent most of his time in this country in the Boston area –- a place he adopted as his second home. He worked as a bartender at the Thirsty Scholar and frequented the Phoenix Landing (LFC’s spiritual home) in Cambridge, Mass. His favorite American holiday was the day of the UEFA Champions League Final, which he spent at the Phoenix Landing.

His body will be flown back to Liverpool next week.

A memorial service will be held this Saturday at 6:30pm at:

The Collins family has asked that everyone wear Liverpool shirts instead of suits at the service on Saturday. It is OK to wear your United, Chelsea, Arsenal, etc. shirts, as Marty mastered the art of friendly footy banter with his rivals at the Phoenix Landing.

The service will be immediately followed by a celebration of his life at the Phoenix Landing.

There will also be a minute’s applause in Marty’s honor before kickoff of Sunday morning’s Liverpool-Spurs game at 8:30 a.m.
