The Patriots announced eight roster cuts Friday afternoon, but they've still got to make 19 more by 4 p.m. Saturday. None of the transactions were surprising.

New England released linebacker Ricky Brown, offensive lineman Jonathan Compas, defensive lineman Darryl Richard, tight end Carson Butler, wide receiver Buddy Farnham, offensive lineman Mike Berry, running back Richard Medlin and offensive lineman Corey Woods.

Richard had the best camp of the group, but he was stuck behind a really good group of defensive linemen.

Butler and Farnham should be candidates to land on the practice squad if they clear waivers, and Brown could be a candidate to return to the organization if the Patriots need depth at linebacker or help on special teams.
