The Red Sox added to their outfield depth and picked up a right-handed bat as Wednesday turned to Thursday when they acquired outfielder Conor Jackson from Oakland, the A's announced.
The Sox traded minor league pitcher Jason Rice in exchange for Jackson, a 29-year-old outfielder who's also spent some time at first base.
Jackson is hitting .249 with four home runs and 39 RBIs at the time of the deal to go along with a .658 OPS.
Jackson showed flashes of power toward the beginning of his career when he hit 15 home runs in 2006 and 2007. He also posted an OPS of .809, .836 and .823 during '06 through '08, respectively, and hit .300 for the Diamondbacks in 2008.
