Things continued spiralling downward for the Red Sox on Friday night, as the Tampa Bay Rays beat up John Lackey to the tune of five runs over three innings.
Add a left calf contusion to the mix after a line drive to the shin forced Lackey out of the game early, and you've got yourself a sore morning in the making.
Many Red Sox arms are probably getting a little sore out in the bullpen as well. As NESN's Tony Lee noticed, Red Sox relievers have pitched nearly as many innings as the team's starters over the last eight games. That's usually not a good sign.
But it is good enough for NESN Nation's Nate Hinchey to award the Red Sox bullpen our "Workhorse" player of the game. It has a little better of a ring to it than a "Panic Button" award, which was our second choice.
But we're not panicking. Yet.
Ask us again tomorrow and we might have a different answer.
