Selig reportedly called the Mets on Sunday night and was "irate" that the team had told media members that Major League Baseball would not allow the Mets to wear hats honoring New York City police and fire department members.
The players wore first responders hats during pregame ceremonies but played the game wearing their usual Mets uniforms.
Mets pitcher R.A. Dickey tweeted that the team had "conspired" to wear the hats during the game but once MLB found out they "physically took them" from the Mets.
"It's so much bigger than hats," Dickey tweeted.
