Ozzie Guillen's tenure as White Sox manager looks like it's about to come to an end. Fittingly, it's a bizarre conclusion to what was an always entertaining era.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Guillen's eight-year tenure is coming to an end, and it's likely that the White Sox and the Marlins will work out a deal that will allow Guillen to become the next manager of the Marlins.
Current Florida manager, Jack McKeon, announced Monday that he will not be back next year.
The Sun-Times report also indicated that Guillen's last game as the White Sox skipper will come on Monday night despite the fact that Chicago still has two games left after Monday's.
Guillen revealed that he met with Chicago owner Jerry Reinsdorf prior to Monday's game. When speaking to reporters, Guillen was rather frank about the discussion, although he did not have any real specifics at the time.
Guillen called the talk "painful," while also admitting that he wanted a contract extension giving him more money, as he is currently signed through next season.
The outspoken manager also spoke about his team's performance this season.
"They should [expletive] fire me," he said. "Look at what I did. I got a great team that play like [expletive]. Why not? I take the responsibility."
According to the Sun-Times report, though, Guillen likely already knew his fate following the meeting with Reinsdorf.
Guillen won almost 600 games in his eight years as White Sox manager, and led Chicago to a World Series title in 2005.
