It should come as no surprise that brothers Rex and Rob Ryan are popping up in the news even before their respective teams play their Week 2 matchups.

The brothers squared off in Week 1, with Rex’s Jets rallying late to defeat the Cowboys 27-24. A few days after the game, Rex reached out to his brother, and he wasn’t shy about bragging about his team’s victory, according to the Dallas Morning News.

“Yeah, he left some really unflattering messages, but it’s to be expected,” Rob said. “There is no compassion there at all. No.”

Rex Ryan has always spoken his mind freely and has never been one to shy away from obscenities. But how harsh were his words to his twin brother?

“There was no ‘PG’ thing about them,” Rob Ryan said. “I think it was ‘R’ or worse.”

And so begins another season of Rex Ryan banter — now with the addition of some sibling rivalry. When the Jets were featured on the HBO series Hard Knocks just before last season, fans and critics alike — even Rex’s mother — were quick to notice the unusually frequent use of curse words, especially for national television. Ryan was also photographed at a mixed martial arts event near Miami earlier in the year while flipping his middle finger to a group of Miami Dolphins fans.

Rex is not new to this particular spotlight, and Rob, in his first year as defensive coordinator in Dallas, will likely uphold the Ryan family tradition.

“It’s coming back to him one of these days,” Rob said.
