FOXBORO, Mass. — Three Patriots spent their day off in style, partying with Bruins forward Shawn Thornton and the Stanley Cup.

Thornton invited his golfing buddy, Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski, to his Cup party Tuesday night, and Gostkowski brought wide receiver Julian Edelman and punter Zoltan Mesko along for the ride.

"[Thornton] is a good guy to know, a great person, asked if I wanted to show up and bring a couple teammates," Gostkowski said. "I offered the invitation to a couple guys who follow the sport, had time on their hands and came with. It was awesome to see the Stanley Cup, all of the tradition behind it, how excited that the city of Boston was to see it."

Gostkowski has been a lifelong hockey fan and played goalie and wing while growing up in Buffalo, N.Y. He gave up the sport around the age of 10 when his family moved to Mississippi where, "they didn't have any ice," Gostkowski said.

The kicker grew up as a big Sabres fan but has also become a full-on supporter of the Bruins. He got tickets to Games 4 and 6 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Canucks.

Edelman also got to some games and watched the rest on TV. While discussing his time around the Cup, he threw on his new Bruins hat.

"It was awesome," Edelman said. "Got to take a picture with it. It was just a cool experience, something I never thought I'd get to do."
