In news that should surprise nobody who’s been watching sports over the last decade, ESPN the Magazine is declaring Boston “America’s most dominant sports city” in an upcoming issue, according to The Boston Globe.
The Boston-heavy issue of ESPN the Magazine continues the Mag’s trend of dedicating entire issues to themes, similarly to how their football preview issue was devoted to Mike Vick.
The theme this time? Boston’s dominance after having four teams split seven titles among themselves the past 10 years.
Articles include a The Town-inspired guide to robbing Fenway Park, a photo essay about the Boston Bruins and why they love Boston and even an inside look at the Red Sox front office with internal scouting reports of Dustin Pedroia, Jacoby Ellsbury and Clay Buchholz.
Comedians Denis Leary and Artie Lange also take sides in the Boston-New York rivalry and argue over which city’s teams are better.
Current Los Angeles resident and once upon a time Boston Sports Guy Bill Simmons is reported to have returned to his magazine roots for a Rick Reilly-style cameo on the back page with a column about why the issue is a bad idea.
