Alex Rodriguez Goes Down Swinging, Yankees Once Again Prove Money Doesn't Guarantee a World Series (Photos) Once again, Alex Rodriguez was the guy who had the last chance to deliver for the Yankees in their bid for a World Series title.

Once again, he came up small in the big moment.

The Yankees proved that first place on the payroll sheet doesn’t necessarily translate into first place in October.

With the Yankees officially out of the equation, there is no longer an AL East team in the playoffs. It may not be “Sweet Caroline,” but the sound of that may be just as sweet to Red Sox fans. The sight of it may be a sweet one, too.
