Bill Belichick Reveals Affinity for 'Candy and Costumes' on HalloweenFOXBORO, Mass. — The bye week is timely for Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who noted Wednesday that he's got some pressing items to tend to in the coming days.

Sure, he's got to assess his football team and begin his preparations for the Steelers, but Belichick would have been remiss if he didn't mention an important household item that wouldn't take care of itself.

"Get the Halloween decorations up," Belichick said with a grin.

Naturally, 'tis the season, of course. Belichick's tongue-in-cheek comments resurrected the thoughts from NFL Films' A Football Life special, in which the Patriots head coach showed up to a 2009 team Halloween party dressed as a pirate. A good one, too.

When it comes to his favorite holiday, Belichick is probably partial to Super Bowl Sunday, though he prefers to skip the parties and get in a good day of work on that one. He's also been depicted as Santa Claus on a Sports Illustrated cover. And, having started his NFL coaching career as an assistant in Detroit, he's probably got a healthy appreciation for Thanksgiving, too.

But right now, it's Halloween season, and that roller-skating pirate is still on everyone's mind. Because of that, Belichick was asked if this happened to be his favorite holiday.

"[It's] pretty good — candy and costumes," Belichick replied. "How can you beat that?"
