The death of IndyCar driver Dan Wheldon in Las Vegas drew many reactions from the racing community, from tears to poetry.
The two-time Indianapolis 500 winner will be remembered as much for his fearless racing style as for anything else, as he explained on a sponsor's blog in 2010.
"When I first started racing, a lot of guys said that I raced with a lot of heart, occasionally not my head, but always with a lot of heart, like the way that Richard the Lionheart fought in battle," Wheldon wrote, according to a story on CNN.
That reputation inspired a decal applied to open-wheel and stock cars. Cartoonist Will O'Toole pays homage to Wheldon and the decal in the cartoon of the day.
Since graduating from Seton Hall University, Will O'Toole has been doing cartoons for over 30 years for a number of papers (USA Today), magazines (College and Pro Football Weekly) and websites (CBSSportsline.com). He is believed to be the only national cartoonist to have voted for the Heisman Trophy and the Wooden and Naismith Awards.
