FOXBORO, Mass. — The Patriots practiced without seven players Wednesday, their highest absentee list since their first session of the regular season.

Linebacker Jerod Mayo (knee), defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth (back), tight end Aaron Hernandez (knee), tackle Sebastian Vollmer (back), running back Danny Woodhead (ankle), wide receiver Julian Edelman and defensive lineman Mike Wright (concussion) missed the team's first practice in preparation for the Jets.

It's the first practice that Mayo, Woodhead and Edelman have missed during the regular season.

Cornerback Ras-I Dowling (hip) returned after missing Friday's practice and Sunday's game in Oakland. Cornerback Leigh Bodden (groin) also practiced after missing New England's victory against the Raiders.

It was the Patriots' 15th regular-season practice, not including walkthroughs, and they were in shorts and shells for the 12th time.
