The two former players praise Enrique's ability and professionalism and are stumped as to why he has not yet been picked to represent his country, according to the Daily Mirror and LiverpoolFC.tv.
"As an ex-full-back myself, I can appreciate the work he's doing for the team, both in attack and defense," Liverpool assistant manager Clarke said. "We've been impressed by the way he's gone about his business day-to-day in training and I think that is when you get to know your players best, by working with them every day."
Enrique moved to Liverpool from Newcastle last summer in a £6 million ($9.3 million) transfer. His play over seven games for the Reds has earned him numerous plaudits and the fullback assisted Andy Carroll's derby-winning goal on Saturday.
The calls for Spain manager Vicente del Bosque to select the player, who has played for his country at the U-16, U-20 and U-21 levels are increasing in volume. Count former the Liverpool playmaker Molby as an admirer.
"It was impossible not to be impressed by Jose Enrique's performance at Goodison Park last weekend," he said. "The Spaniard really is a top-class player, and he is proving it week upon week.
"How he isn't in the Spanish national squad is beyond me. He would appear to suit their game perfectly. He is quick, strong and distributes the ball superbly. When you consider the likes of Joan Capdevilla and Asier Del Horno have been used at left-back in the past, it surely won't be long before Enrique is first choice for his country."
The now 25-year-old Enrique left Spain in 2007 when he joined Newcastle from Villareal. Within a year Spain became European champions and World Cup winners two years after that. Capdevilla and Del Horno are 33 and 30 years old respectively and their international careers are coming to an end.
Enrique would ably fill the position that the two have shared for the better part of a decade. Malaga's Nacho Monreal, Real Madrid's Álvaro Arbeloa and Valencia's Jordi Alba have all appeared at left back for Spain in recent games.
It is often difficult for foreign-based to catch the eyes of their national team coaches, unless they feature in the UEFA Champions League. But if Enrique continues to perform as well as he has thus far in his Liverpool career, it would be nearly impossible for Del Bosque to overlook him when Euro 2012 comes around next summer.
