University of Memphis athletic director R.C. Johnson is not oblivious to the conference upheaval in college sports, and the Conference USA school has its sights on the most illustrious football conference in the nation.

"We think we deserve to be" in the Southeastern Conference, Johnson told WMC-TV Action News in Memphis.

Johnson's choice of words were interesting, because what athletic program really "deserves" a bowl payout of up to $17 million? A lot of us "deserve" a nine-bedroom house overlooking the water on Nantucket, but unfortunately there's not enough room for all of us on the island.

The SEC most likely doesn't have room for Memphis on its island, either.
