Montse Benitez, wife of former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez, has launched the Montse Benitez Foundation to help local charities in Liverpool.

Benitez hopes the foundation will be able to fundraise and boost the profile of various charitable initiatives throughout the Liverpool community.

"I want to help people in my home," she said at a launch party held in Liverpool's Hotel Indigo. "I didn't need to go far away, abroad, to help because here in this town there are people who need our help."

"That is why I decided with Rafa to set up a foundation to raise funds and then we're going to give away funds to different charities and groups that help a wide range of people, children, elderly, disabled children, disabled adults, people with illness or problems in general."

Benitez's husband, Rafa, managed Liverpool from 2004-10, winning the famous 2005 Champions League final in Istanbul. Soon after his dismissal as Liverpool manager by Tom Hicks and George Gillette in June of 2010, Benitez donated £96,000 to the Hillsborough Family Support Group.
