Liverpool MP Steve Rotheram has gone public with concerns that the House of Commons may shorten the debate over the Hillsborough files, currently scheduled for next Monday.

Rotheram revealed that the House of Commons is currently considering extending the time allotted for debate on pension reforms, at the partial expense of the scheduled discussion debating the release of the Hillsborough files to the public.

"Three hours is not long enough, never mind anything less. The families deserve the full allocated time," Rotheram told the Liverpool Echo.

The debate over the release of the files was forced through by an online petition exceeding 100,000 names, thus automatically qualifying for official discussion in the House of Commons.
