NFL Trade Deadline Live Blog: Carson Palmer Goes to Oakland, Ronnie Brown Shipped to Detroit

6 p.m: As far as the NFL trade deadline goes, Tuesday was a pretty noteworthy day for the league.

The Carson Palmer trade to Oakland was the biggest news, but another relatively big name was also dealt on the afternoon.

The Eagles sent Ronnie Brown to the Lions for Jerome Harrison and a seventh-rounder. Brown gives the Lions a veteran running back insurance policy with Jahvid Best's future unclear after he suffered another concussion Sunday against San Francisco.

1:11 p.m: In case you were expecting hear the name David Garrard thrown about today, you can stop now.

Garrard was cut by the Jaguars in the preseason this year, and The Florida Times-Union reported that it was because Garrard needed back surgery.

There aren't many teams in the market for a quarterback recovering from back surgery.

11:22 a.m.: If the Carson Palmer-to-Oakland deal does get done, it will be interesting to see how long it takes him to get on the field.

Palmer has been on an extended lockout, so there's almost no chance he'd be ready for Sunday's division game against the Chiefs.

He could, however, be ready for the Raiders' Week 9 matchup with the Broncos, following a Week 8 bye.

Marshall Faulk noted on Twitter that the Bengals and Raiders run similar systems in that they use numbers instead of words. Patriots fans have seen Chad Ochocinco switching from the numbers in Cincy to the words in New England, which is a hurdle Palmer apparently won't face.

10:57 a.m.: That didn't take long. According to FOX's Jay Glazer, Carson Palmer is close to becoming an Oakland Raider.

The Raiders reportedly send a first-round pick in 2012 and a conditional future pick to acquire Palmer, Glazer says.

Palmer, 31, hasn't played all season but is the best available option for a team that lost its starter on Sunday.

Glazer didn't specify when the deal is likely to be completed, saying it will before the 4 p.m. deadline.

10:15 a.m.: It may lack the excitement and hype of its cousins in other sports leagues, but the NFL's trading deadline could see some action before the end of the day.

The Oakland Raiders are 4-2 and tied for first place, but they need a quarterback after starter Jason Campbell was injured on Sunday. Kyle Orton, now backup to Tim Tebow in Denver, has been thrown about in rumors, as has Carson Palmer, who didn't get along with the Bengals and was forced into early retirement. With rookie Andy Dalton leading the Bengals to a 4-2 record, Cincy doesn't miss Palmer as much as most believed it would, so perhaps the team would be willing to cash in on a player who isn't helping out.

Is it likely that Orton, Palmer or anyone else will be on the move Tuesday? Nobody knows at the moment, so keep it here throughout the day for all the rumors from around the league before the deadline hits at 4 p.m. ET.
