President Barack Obama recently thanked FC Barcelona for the gifts he received from club representatives when they visited the White House this summer.

U.S. General Consul Gregory Crouch met with Barcelona president Sandro Rosell to review the club's visit and to deliver a handwritten letter of gratitude from Obama.

Crouch also had words of praise for the Catalan club, and displayed an admirable, if limited, knowledge of Spain's top side.

"Barça have a fantastic reputation around the world and thanks to this club, soccer is increasing more widely known in the United States. Everybody knows who Messi is!" Crouch said.

Barcelona currently sit at the top of the La Liga table after six matches played.
