“The club has waited 100 years for this,” Solskjaer told Norwegian newspaper VG. “We have been close several times so this was well deserved. When Brann went 4-1 I realised we had done it. It was a good atmosphere in the dressing room and we will enjoy ourselves tonight.”
The former Norwegian international joined Manchester United from Molde in 1996. He made 366 appearances for United, scoring 126 goals. His most famous was his 1999 winner in the UEFA Champions League final. A knee injury forced him to retire from playing in 2007.
He immediately took up a coaching role at Old Trafford and quickly became reserve team manager. He left Manchester United to assume the manager position at Molde.
Solskjaer also made 67 appearances for Norway, scoring 23 goals. The 38-year-old has been talked about as a future manager of Norway’s national team.
