The Patriots kicked off their bye week by releasing safety Ross Ventrone and cornerback Sterling Moore, who made his NFL debut during Sunday's victory against the Cowboys.

Both players have practice squad eligibility and could return to the team if they clear waivers.

There were no corresponding roster moves, which opens the possibility that the Patriots could activate any of their three players from the physically unable to perform list. Running back Kevin Faulk, defensive lineman Ron Brace and defensive lineman Brandon Deaderick are eligible to be activated from the PUP list as early as this week.

This is the sixth time Ventrone has been released by the Patriots since 2010.
