Former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez admitted he would like another shot on the Liverpool hot-seat one day. The Liverpool Echo reports the Spanish tactician supports current boss Kenny Dalglish, but would jump at the chance to lead the Reds after the club icon’s work is through.
“I was really proud to be Liverpool manager and I want to be manager in the future.” Benitez told the audience at Liverpool’s Empire Theater. “I will wait. I don’t want headlines tomorrow, but I want to support Kenny. But in the future, if I have to wait three, five, 10 years. I was really pleased and happy at Liverpool and hopefully they will win a lot of trophies. But when Kenny retires . . .”
Benitez managed Liverpool from 2004-2010. The Reds were European champions in 2005 under his guidance and finished as high as second in the English Premier League in 2009. He famously fell out with the previous ownership group before his firing in 2010. His ill-fated move to Italian giants Inter Milan ended after only six months.
Benitez is out of work at the moment, but recently said he would like to manage in England again, but only at a “competitive” club.
