The Chicago Cubs have plenty of personnel decisions to make this offseason, and the most important move they’ll have to make is to find a general manager. It would come as no surprise if they are indeed courting Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein, but unsurprisingly, the Cubbies aren’t tipping their hand.

Cubs owner Tom Ricketts appeared with Neil Cavuto on FOX Business Network, and the two spoke about Chicago’s offseason plans and the improvements they hope to make.

When pressed by Cavuto about the possibilty of going after Epstein this offseason, Ricketts was noncommittal to say the least.

“I don’t know; there’s a lot of good candidates out there,” he said. “We’re going to talk to a handful of them and I’m sure we’ll come up with the right fit for the team. Ultimately it will be the decision of myself and my family. Obviously we didn’t get it done on the field this year. It was a disappointing season for everyone, but, we’re going to get some new leadership.”

Epstein is under contract through this season with the Red Sox, but there have already been a handful of rumors about the chances of Epstein leaving the Sox for the Cubs or another team.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, Ricketts thinks the key to helping the economy recover is staying confident. Of course, it must be mentioned that Ricketts’ family is worth about $1 billion, so it’s easy to see where he gets his financial confidence.
