Danny Wilson could find temporary relief from the Liverpool bench by moving to Blackpool on a short-term loan. The 19-year-old has made just one appearance for the Reds this season and could join teammate Jonjo Shelvey at the Championship club, according to the Blackpool Gazette.
"There's nothing worse than not being able to go out on the pitch on a Saturday and play," Wilson said to the Liverpool Echo. "But I need to just keep my head down and hopefully I'll either get some game time at Liverpool or get the chance to go somewhere else and try and prove myself."
Blackpool emerged as a possible destination for Wilson after former England manager Steve McLaren was fired by Nottingham Forest. McLaren's link with the player was thought to discourage Blackpool from pursuing Wilson, despite its interest over the summer.
Wilson was signed in the summer of 2010 for £5 million ($7.8 million) from Glasgow Rangers and made eight appearances for Liverpool last season. He has been unable to break into the first team this season, as manager Kenny Dalglish prefers the experienced Jamie Carragher, Martin Skrtel, Daniel Agger and the undoubted potential of Sebastian Coates over the Scottish international.
Regular starts during a short-term loan spell at Blackpool could give Wilson enough sharpness and confidence to break into the Liverpool team when he returns. Over the long season, he will certainly appear in cup games against weaker opposition or deputize for senior players if injuries occur. Even a month of regular action would better prepare him to seize the opportunity when it presents itself.
