The Jets' pass-happy offensive attack is reportedly unpopular with the players most likely to benefit from such a system: the wide receivers.
Santonio Holmes, Plaxico Burress and Derrick Mason have gone individually to Jets head coach Rex Ryan to complain about offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer's system, reports Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.
"Wideouts don't typically want to change when they're part of a pass-friendly offense," Mehta writes. "However, all of them recognize the importance of re-establishing a ground attack that has lost its way."
The Jets throw the ball 62 percent of the time, but the lack of a rushing game has left quarterback Mark Sanchez with less time to throw the ball. As a result, Holmes and Mason are averaging just three catches per game and Burress is averaging 2 1/2 per game, according to Mehta.
The Jets denied the report.
"Jets have released an official team statement: 'The New York Jets deny a report this morning that wide receivers Plaxico Burress… Santonio Holmes and Derrick Mason have gone to Head Coach Rex Ryan individually in the past few weeks to question… offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer's system," the team announced in a series of tweets from its official Twitter account.
The Jets visit the Patriots Sunday at 4:15 p.m.
