The ongoing saga of the Red Sox' offseason took another turn on Tuesday with the latest reported beer-drinking incident.
WHDH is now reporting that Red Sox pitchers Josh Beckett, Jon Lester and John Lackey didn't limit their in-game beer drinking to the clubhouse. Channel 7 reports that the trio also drank beers in the dugout during games.
The report, citing two Red Sox employees, says that Beckett, Lester and Lackey would leave the dugout usually around the sixth inning to retreat to the clubhouse. One Red Sox employee told WHDH that Beckett would enter the clubhouse and say "It's about that time" with Lester and Lackey close behind.
There, they would fill cups with Bud Light before returning to the dugout to drink the beers while watching the game.
The trio appeared "bored on nights they weren't pitching and this is how they entertained themselves," one of the sources told Channel 7.
The Boston Globe also reported Tuesday night that a team source confirmed the report.
UPDATE: Lester called the report "completely false," according to a tweet from ESPN.com's Gordon Edes on Tuesday night.
