FOXBORO, Mass. — Seven years ago Thursday, Patriots defensive lineman Ron Brace remembers hanging out at the Boston College dorms and watching the Red Sox put the finishing touches on Game 4 of the World Series.
Brace wasn’t much of a baseball fan — growing up in Springfield, Mass., Brace and his friends only played football and basketball — but he caught onto the game during the Sox’ playoff run.
And of course, he was like any other college kid who liked to celebrate a good time. There were plenty of those to be had, and they hit their apex when the Red Sox disposed of the Cardinals to end an 86-year drought on Oct. 27, 2004.
The parties at Boston College spilled from the dorms outside to the basketball courts and beyond.
“There were stampedes through the hallways when they won,” Brace said. “I never really watched baseball before that, but after that, I started really watching it and paying attention to the postseason and all that. Pretty much, the last inning is the only time when I would pay attention just to see if there was going to be a stampede in the hallways. And sure enough, there were stampedes every night.”
