Vote: How Will You Remember Theo Epstein? In all likelihood, the Theo Epstein era in Boston has reached its end. As the general manager looks poised to move on to Chicago to try and exorcise a century's worth of demons on the North Side, the looking back on his time in Boston will surely follow.

Epstein took over as general manager of his hometown team in 2002 and in the process, became the youngest GM in baseball history at the time. What followed in the next decade was an interesting run to say the least.

Admittedly, Epstein inherited a team that was already on the verge of winning. That said, you can't deny the fact that he helped put them over the top with a couple of meaningful acquisitions that helped put the team over the top. Epstein, of course, helped the Sox do something in 2004 that they hadn't done since 1918 — win a World Series.

Three years later, the Sox won another ring helped in large part to a large contingency of homegrown players and acquired guns that were all brought in by Epstein and his crew.

The results, in short, are undeniable.

However, professional sports are a what have you done for done for meat lately business, and in the final years of his tenure, the Sox were largely unsuccessful. Despite spending more than $500 million over the time, the Red Sox haven't won a playoff game since 2008.

Making matters worse, the situation absolutely imploded this season resulting in a mass exodus from Yawkey Way involving presumably Epstein, manager Terry Francona and more than likely a sizable group of players, many of which were signed by or traded for by Epstein.
