However, the undersized Gionta wasn’t the first Eagle to hear his name called in that late-June weekend, as it was the Boston Bruins who plucked an Eagle with their second-round (52nd-overall) pick. Gionta, who has over 400 points in over 600 career NHL games, was picked 82nd-overall that summer, by the New Jersey Devils. The soon-to-be junior at The Heights was coming off of a 60-point sophomore season.
