When tickets sold out in less than a week for the Jan. 7 college hockey doubleheader at Fenway Park, it was clear that fan interest for outdoor hockey was high.

To satisfy puckheads, another outdoor doubleheader has been scheduled for Jan. 14 featuring Beantown rivals Boston College and Northeastern.

The City of Boston, the Boston Red Sox, Hockey East and Fenway Sports Management announced on Thursday that BC and NU will square off for a showdown at Fenway Park, one week after the original Sun Life Frozen Fenway event on Jan. 7 featuring Hockey East teams Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine.

The Eagles and Huskies will tangle inside Fenway at 6 p.m. on Jan. 14. The game will be preceeded by high school rivals Boston College High School and Catholic Memorial School at 3 p.m., pending approval from the schools and the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association.

"After the Jan. 7 hockey doubleheader at Fenway Park sold out in less than a week, we wanted to offer hockey fans another opportunity to watch an outdoor game at the ballpark this winter," said Red Sox executive vice president/COO Sam Kennedy. "The addition of these two games also gives Boston residents a rare chance to see two popular local teams compete at both the high school and collegiate level."

Boston College and Northeastern have been extremely competitive with one another, with the last five meetings being decided by one goal or ending in a tie. The Eagles defeated the Huskies 7-6 in overtime of the 2011 Beanpot on Feb. 14, then skated to a 7-7 tie four days later before NU toppled BC 2-1 on Feb. 19. Boston College dropped Northeastern 5-4 in the Hockey East Tournament semifinal on March 18 en route to the league title.

BC defeated Northeastern 4-3 in overtime on Oct. 22 at Matthews Arena.

Tickets for the single ticket doubleheader go on sale at noon on Nov. 18 and will be available at redsox.com/frozenfenway, by calling (877) RED-SOX9, or at the Fenway Park box office. Fans with disabilities may also call (877) RED-SOX9 to purchase accessible seating.
