Calvin Pace Calls Patriots 'The Evil Empire,' Says Bills Aren't Contenders in AFC EastIt was the right week to talk trash, apparently, as the horrific scandal at Penn State seized the attention of sports fans and the country at large.

While that indicates the country’s priorities are mostly in order, it causes us all to miss Calvin Pace‘s comments from Sunday afternoon. With thanks to ProFootballTalk, though, we won’t miss them completely.

Shortly after the Jets had beaten the Bills on Sunday, Pace offered a friendly nickname for his team’s rival to the north.

“It’s on to the Evil Empire, the New England Patriots,” Pace said, according to the New York Post.

Pace didn’t stop at referring to the Patriots as a term New Englanders have only used to describe the New York Yankees. He made sure to make sure the Bills knew that they won’t be contending for an AFC East title.

“It’s still a two-team race,” Pace told the Post, despite the fact that all three teams are now tied at 5-3. “It’s still just the Jets and Patriots. [The Bills are] doing well, but sometimes the spotlight is big. I think the Jets and the Patriots can handle that spotlight. We control our own destiny.”

The Patriots will have their chance to alter that Jets destiny on Sunday night, while the Bills will make a trip to play the Jets at the end of the month.
