Cubs to Interview Pete Mackanin, Mike Maddux for Managerial Job, Also Reportedly Looking at Dale SveumThe Cubs and Red Sox continued to be linked, and it's not just because of a front-office mashup and the ensuing quest for compensation.

The two teams are reportedly eyeing the same managers, as both clubs have to fill those vacancies. New Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein has to fill the void left by letting Mike Quade go, while Ben Cherington's first task as new Sox general manager is to replace Terry Francona.

On Thursday, we found out that it may be unlikely Francona will take the job in Chicago. However, it was discovered that the Cubs will interview both Pete Mackanin and Mike Maddux. Those names will obviously sound awfully familiar to Red Sox fans. That's because Mackanin interviewed with the Sox earlier in the week, and Boston reportedly asked permission to talk to Maddux as well.

Former Red Sox third base coach Dale Sveum interviewed with Cherington on Wednesday in Boston about the opening. It appears, according to the Chicago Sun Times, that Sveum's next stop will be Chicago to meet with Epstein and new Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer
