Diego Maradona Buries Mother, Dalma Salvadora Franco de Maradona, After She Passed Away at Age 82Diego Maradona laid his mother, Dalma Salvadora Franco de Maradona, to rest Monday after she died of heart failure on Saturday. The Associated Press reports Maradona flew home to Argentina to attend the private funeral for the woman known around the world as "Dona Tota."

Maradona is regarded in some circles as the world's best-ever soccer player. The 51-year-old Argentine starred for clubs in his homeland, Spain and Italy. He led Argentina to victory in the 1986 World Cup and second place in the 1990 World Cup.

He guided his country to the quarterfinals of the 2010 World Cup as its manager. He currently manages the United Arab Emirates club Al Wasl and flew home after hearing of his mother's death.

He was known to be very close with his mother, whose health was declining in recent months.

"Dona Tota" was also the mother-in-law of Manchester City star Sergio Aguero.
