FOXBORO, Mass. — Patriots safety Josh Barrett said Thursday that he's been trying to move forward from the calf injury that landed him on injured reserve last week.

Barrett said he strained his left calf late in the Patriots' loss to the Giants. He said he's been dealing with the injury since training camp, and it flared up at different times. Because of that, he said there's an "unpredictability" factor for his recovery time.

"It's just a point where you've just got to get over it and move on from it," Barrett said. "You don't want to dwell on anything. I felt I did enough to prepare myself. Obviously, injuries are a part of it. Coming down to the decision having been made, you've just got to go with it."

Barrett said he's "feeling a lot better." While walking through the locker room Thursday, he wasn't wearing any protection over his calf.

Barrett started at safety for the first four games of the season before he missed three games and lost his job to James Ihedigbo. The two rotated during the Patriots' loss to the Giants, but Barrett left the game late in the fourth quarter and was placed on injured reserve three days later.

Barrett, who turns 27 next Tuesday, has a base salary of $775,000 for 2012. He hasn't been given any indication on his future with the team.

For now, he's dealing with his second straight season that ended with a trip to injured reserve.

"Everyone goes through their own deal," Barrett said. "Mine just happened to be related to injuries and whatnot. You just go through it. It's part of maturing as a professional and as a player, so you just deal with it."
